You cautiously row into the cave’s mouth. Once inside the cave shrouds you in darkness. Taveah lights a sunrod and stuffs the neck into her quiver. Light washes the black cavernous rock. As you continue down the sea river you catch glimpses of white crystal shards pulsing feintly throughout the cave.
Miklos studies them intently. “Thundershards. Be careful not to disturb them.”
“The gnome is correct.” your Thunderguide confirms. “We’d do best not to steer close to the walls.”
Just then Taveah catches something in the light. Perched atop piles of rubble near the cavern ceiling, she sees two large brasscolored creatures eyeing you warily. Their bodies are lionlike, but covered in scales and a pair of draconic wings sprout from their shoulders. Taveah slowly draws her great bow and nocks and arrow.
One of the dragonnes bellows a tremendous roar. The walls of the cave shake and lash the murky water to foam. A rain of stalactites and rock comes crashing down.
Immediately the other dragonne swoops to attack Taveah. She manages to get off one hasty shot as it slashes at her with its razor sharp talents, slicing through her hide armor.
The other dragonne quickly follows suit, swooping from one rocky precipice to the next until it gets near enough to Taveah to rend her flesh. Her companions are helpless, realizing if they draw their own weapons they’ll be targeted.
“Taveah, lower your bow!” Kohl shouts over the roars of the dragonnes.
Hesitantly, she does so, leaving herself defenseless. It’s no use, however, and the beasts continue their vicious assault. The last strike knocks her off her perch on the boat and she tumbles into the murky water. Luckily, her cloak assists her in holding her breath under water. She swims toward the far entrance, trailing blood through the water. The dragonnes watch for her to resurface, but take no other hostile actions.
As her companions exit their boats, Skarn barks at the water where his mistress fell in. Kohl has to hold him to keep him from jumping in after her. After a time, Taveah finally crawls out onto dry land, coughing, injured, and soaked but alive.
